WARD JACKSON ASSOCIATES LIMITED

CAPABILITIES
Civil Engineering

Topographical surveying, ground investigation and site appraisal, coupled with comprehensive ground modeling software and the ability to investigate the stability of existing and proposed slopes, enables WJA to make a cost-effective assessment of the viability of your project on your site. Earthworks and imported/exported materials balance for infrastructure, reclamation or landscaping projects can be quickly assessed and, where required,  transformed into suitable bills of quantities, design drawings and contract documents.

Reclamation and Remediation

The Managing Director, Nick Jackson, has been involved extensively in reclamation projects, mostly in the old industrial valleys of South Wales, since 1972. He has been responsible for the design and supervision of schemes to recover derelict collieries, iron works and associated waste tips for new industrial development, housing or amenity use. Many of the sites required remedial measures to remove pollution. More recently, WJA investigated the old gasworks in Builth Wells for Powys County Council and designed and supervised the decontamination and restoration of the site for commercial or housing development and the construction of flood alleviation works.

Geotechnical Engineering

Although essentially a civil engineering consultant, a major proportion of WJA's work is geotechnical engineering. A recent example involved successfully bringing to a halt a major landslide consisting of nearly 1 million tonnes of soil and rock that at the start of contract works was moving at 2 to 3 metres a month and threatening residential properties below. Abandoned mine workings and poor ground conditions have also been investigated and treated to allow building developments to proceed.

Hydrology

WJA retains a hydrologist with substantial experience in the fields of urban and land drainage, tidal and fluvial flood protection, river and coastal engineering, flood hydrology, hydraulic structures, agricultural and development drainage, flood alleviation benefit assessment and hydrodynamic mathematical modeling. His experience extends over 35 years.
Expert Witness

Nick Jackson has regularly acted as Expert Witness for Solicitors and other Clients over the past 17 years, providing engineering support for litigation or insurance claims or disputes. WJA is included on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. On occasions, more specialist expertise has been provided in cooperation with academics from the University of Wales at Cardiff and the University of Glamorgan.
